About Ruby Castro
I've loved art since I was a child—always drawing, coloring, and bringing ideas to life. That passion led me to pursue a creative career, earning a Bachelor's in Graphic Design and a Master’s in Web & New Media Design. For almost two decades, I’ve helped brands of all sizes solve creative challenges and tell their stories. I work out of my home studio in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I live with my husband and kids who inspire me every day to continue pushing my creative boundaries.

About Bittermelon Creative
Bittermelon, or ampalaya in Tagalog, is a bumpy green fruit with a bold flavor, popular in Filipino cuisine and traditional medicine. I believe a little bitterness brings balance—both in food and in life.
I started Bittermelon Creative in 2023 after an unexpected layoff from a corporate tech job. To cope with the uncertainty, I turned to drawing, bringing to life memories of food and traditions from my childhood. I shared my illustrations on Instagram and found a supportive community. With encouragement from friends and family, I launched an Etsy shop selling art prints, stickers, greeting cards and custom design. I also take part in community events celebrating Filipino American and AAPI culture.
